Hey, has anyone used those Dennis Carpenter electric wipers in a 48-52 pickup?

Yes . I got mine from Mac's 7 years ago , but it looks like the same one as Carpenter sells

I think the kits are a good idea. I tried to save money by installing 2 electric 79.00 wiper motors like you see in a boat windshield or in a backhoe cab. A lot of swearing and butchery and in the end I had two switches, and two modified wipers with a mind of their own. There was a very special sequence to get the instrument panel back in, and though it was only six months ago, I have already forgotten what that is. I remember it was very difficult. Do yourself a favor and buy an engineered kit.

I installed a conversion kit in an F1 some years ago.
I have forgotten where the owner bought the kit but it used a Volkswagen electric motor and was very easy to install and worked very well.
I really like the original vacuum wipers on my F1.
I can run the wipers very slow so they just barely move in a mist.
Whereas even on the slow speed electric wipers run too fast on a light mist.

Not familiar with the DC units you mentioned. Used a Newport Engineering
on a '50 International Harvester pickup with excellent results. Bolted in with no
issues.

I second the Newport kit. Used a few kits on different cars/trucks and they work great and last so far.

Put a Newport kit in my Ranch Wagon. Fit like it was supposed to. Car isn't on the road but from everything I've heard about Newport their kits are top shelf.

I put a Newport unit in my '57 Fairlane about 20 yrs. ago . Only got caught in rain a couple of times , but I was glad that I had good wipers ! Is your truck 12 volt now ? - F F

I've got a Newport Engineering wiper system in my 40 standard, deuce pu, deuce 3 window and deuce 5 window and have one ordered for my current deuce 2 door project. All work flawlessly.

Just checked and they don't appear to sell units for 33-34s, interesting.

I think one of the last times I talked to Bob he said a 33/34 wiper kit was in the works?

I sold the Newport conversion I had and rebuilt the vacuum setup. Has a Trico Electrovac too..... works pretty well.

I sold Carpenter kits for years and no complaints and just recently put one in my 54 F-100. It works great, easily installed,( well as easy as a guy my age can stand on his head) and a well made kit.

Who can recommend a conversion (from vacuum to electric) kit for a 47 Ford Super Deluxe that has been converted to 12 Volt system? I read somewhere on here about somebody buying a small Honda motor from a scrap yard and making their own kit. I sent an email to New Port asking if they make a kit I need. Thanks for any replies.

As others have suggested, buy a ready made kit and save yourself a lot of headaches. Many of the Ford parts vendors have the kits.

New Port absolutely makes a unit for the '46-47 cars (the '48 unit is different). Since the '46 vacuum versions are not rebuildable (according to Mr. Wiper), I installed the New Port version. No issues with fit or instructions. Worth the cost.

FYI, all the New Port products are 12 volt.
