Re: Mystery shifter on 39 trans .
Man, is that SLICK, or what? The short stick, the fact that it is extended rearward, and the engine-turned dash panel at the top of the picture suggest to me some sort of custom 'sports-type' car, likely in the early '50s, like maybe an MG with a V8-60 and the Ford 3-speed, which we've all seen iterations of over the years. Did the Allards even possibly use something like this? That's just one beautiful piece of engineering to accomplish a 'single rail' type shift mechanism similar to the shifting mechanism found in the T5s and others in current use. One really slick way of making that trans usable in a low, sports-like car with bucket seats. In fact, looking more-closely at that picture, that may be pedals in the foot well on the RIGHT side, as well as the sun's shadow possibly shining through a 3-spoke steering wheel with holes in the spokes.
