Gas tank mounting conundrum
 

Thanks to everyone that have helped guide me in restoring the gas tank on my 33. I have another problem as I re mount the tank. There are 3 bolts with a washer, nut, and rubber bushing to mount the tank. That said, stupid me did not pay attention to what goes where. It would seem to me the bushings are for vibration dampening, but when I try to install them between the tank and frame there is no clearance. Can anyone describe the order in which the bolt, washer, bushing and nut are to be installed?

You might get more responses if you remind people what model you have. In a previous post, you mentioned that it is a 33 Tudor, but worth mentioning again.

I'm not familiar with these cars so I can't answer your question. Hopefully, some of the guys that know these cars well will chime in.

I cant be certain but it seems based on some pictures from the parts manual (notably for a vehicle that is not the same as yours) that the bolt would go through frame and tank. The bushing would go next followed by the washer and then the nut.

Maybe things are different; but I remember a strip of webbing under the tank lips; one side mounted with two bolts and the other side secured with a bolt washer and spring, with the bolt safety wired to a formed area in frame inner liner.

I think that Rich b has it right. Webbing between the tank and frame, two hex bolts and nuts on one side and the single hex bolt with spring on the other. The spring is to allow the frame to flex without twisting the tank.

rich b is correct except the addition of safety wire was a post-'33 addition. The long bolt used with the spring has a drilled shank and is secured with a slotted hex nut and cotter pin ((if it's an early '33 it would be a castle nut instead of a slotted hex nut). It goes on the left side with the head of the spring, nut, and cotter pin above the tank.

I'm assuming my 32 tudor tank would mount the same way, the frame and the tank are both reproductions but shouldn't make a difference?
