Brake cross shaft socket springs

The 'Ford Service Bulletin for February (page 225) fig. 460 shows where two springs are installed in the cross shaft. My '28 did not have them when I disassembled the shaft. Are they needed or has these springs been phased out?

There needed! It keeps the whole mess tight.....so it's not sloppy.
I found some and had to shorten them to work, try Mc Master-Carr.

Can you provide a size of spring that is needed?
