28 vs 29 transmission I'm in the process of rebuilding my transmission for my May 29 tudor. About 1/2 way thru the process I realized that I was working on a transmission from a mid 28 car chassis. The emergency brake is in the front. Is there any other differences in a 28 vs 29 transmission. Thank you all for all your help.

Re: 28 vs 29 transmission There was an internal change at sometime, from memory, it is mentioned in the service bulitens. I'm not sure of the date of the change.

Re: 28 vs 29 transmission I am a little confused. The car is a 29 Tudor, and the transmission is from a mid-1928. Is it the early transmission case for use with the multi-disc clutch? The transmission top with the E-brake handle mounted to the front was used from March/April of 1928 through June of 1929. Then the side-mount (right) from July of 1929 through the end of production.

Re: 28 vs 29 transmission The front mounted handbrake on your mid '29 is correct.

Re: 28 vs 29 transmission Service Bulletin, Pg. 311, January 1929: Change in transmission case. "A change has been made in the transmission case which eliminates the two A-7119 transmission countershaft gear thrust washers..." Fig. 626
Service Bulletin, Pg. 312, January 1929: Change in Idler Shaft. "To simplify and secure more positive lubrication of the reverse idler gear, the gear and idler shaft have been redesigned..." Fig. 628 Service Bulletin, Pg. 303, December 1928: Transmission shaft and gears held to closer limits. "The intermediate and high sliding gear and low and reverse sliding gear are now fitted to exceptionally close limits..." Fig. 610 |
Re: 28 vs 29 transmission The 1928 parking brake handle is the squeeze type and the 1929 is hte push button type. As mentioned by criswellnk, the covers are the same.
