flathead head engine leak Help
 

Hey guys i need some help here before i pull whatever hair i have left.i have a 1951 flathead in my 32 roadster that's blowing oil onto my firewall,engine is rebuilt with a 3/4 cam,oils was seeping out from my cone filter and seems it is also spattering from the oil spout,ant input would be greatly appreciated

Forgot to add if i can eliminate this cone oil filter for inlet lines are only 3/8 thanks

does it still have the draft tube? does it have a PVC vale system?

no pvc valve and since i am not a mechanic i dont know what a draft tube is,i can take a better picture of the engine and post it

Do you know if it is a by-pass filter or was the block modified for some type of full flow oil filter? Where do the inlet and return lines to/from the filter connect to the block?

correction on oil lines are 5/16 one line going to back of block return line to intake or vice versa on oil flow

Sounds like a by-pass system. If it is you can just plug the port where the inlet line connects to the rear of the block. BUT, you must be positive it is a by-pass system. Can you post a few photos of the filter lines and connection points to the block?

For oil escaping the filter maybe the restrictor was left out...not to uncommon...
And converting a 8BA to 59AB style you have to mix and match the correct intake gasket and stuff or the breathing gets issues.

exactly my problem i am thinking of eliminating the oil filter cone altogether.seems the oil pressure is too strong and wants to go somewhere.i feel it is spattering where you put oil in spout and also have a small leak in cone gasket which i had to double gasket.i cannot upload the piks for some reason in the reply window,thanks

A friend had a problem after fitting a new filter. The sealing ring was the wrong shape. he carefully refitted the old seal whichn he described as "flat" and it is ok now. maybe your seal is not "flat".

You can disconnect that filter and run without. But it would be better to make it work properly and keep it in the system. They are very effective.

Caveat: You can only disconnect it if it is a bypass filter.

Please post clear photos of your filter and how the oil lines are routed from the block to the filter and then back to the oil pan.

any chance of finding out where your friend bought that oil seal for the filter,i wish i can download the picture but it wont let me in the reply window

Use the regular reply not the quick reply, scroll down until you see manage attachments. Before you upload load your picture you should crop it as best you can. Pictures don't post because they are usually to big. When you can post some more pictures of your '32. Hope his helps.

Just a thought. I see you have a breather where the fuel pump used to mount. Is there a breather also at the front of the engine? If not you may be building up pressure in the crankcase causing oil to literally blow out thru that rear breather onto your firewall.

You have what is commonly known as a bypass 'beehive' replacement oil filter.
Speedway motors sells them and replacement gaskets.

If you can email me the photos I will post them for you. I am fairly sure you have a by-pass setup, but it that assumption is incorrect the results is the loss of an engine. So we need to be 100% sure here.

The filter does appear to be 'plumbed' correctly.
Pressure to the bottom and return out the side into the fuel pump /oil filler stand.
Also the filter has a built in restrictor and does not need any additional restrictor.
