1936 Cabriolet Convertible Tack Strip
 

Is there a replacement tack strip available. Is sits in a channel around the rear
of the car where the convertible top is stapled to. It looks to me like a hard rubber material. Is there also a replacement metal channel? My Chanel’s seems to have rotted in some areas. Any ideas to create a channel if there isn’t one available? Any info would surely be appreciated. Thanks, Tony.

I had the same problem on the last three converts I did.
I tried to patch the first one but it did not turn out well.
I ended up fabricating a new channel for each car.
I had to make it in three sections ( upper and lower for a total of six sections) and TIG it together.
It took a long time to do it right,probably about 30 hours.
Someone else might have a source for the channels but that is what I did.

I just did the top on my '40, I got fiberboard tack strip from convertible top guys and attached it to the channel with pop rivets where needed. So far so good.

Most likely what you are seeing is hard plastic.
I always bought mine from Lebaron. However, I find it difficult to believe others don't carry it.
Riveting it in place is fine. Do NOT use steel rivets for obvious reasons. Rivet every two inches.
the hard plastic is the preferred material used by the "pros". It holds the staples much better than any fiber (read: paper) product and will not hold moisture.

As I posted on steves post this seat channel is ideal you could possibly use a uncut length from a 34 seat or some other year ,if the compressed paper needs replacing I recommend Urethane windscreen sealant with primer .And from my Upholstery days use carpet tacks The idea is that when the tacks go in they strike the metal and that forms a hook on the end and locks it in .Ted
