y block fuel pump

The fuel pump started leaking on my 272 y block. I received the new fuel pump. It came with gasket, fittings, and a bolt with lockwasher. What is the one bolt and lockwasher used for, and why just one? I thought maybe it was for a chevy to hold the pump actuator rod, but why the lock washer? Just one of those things that I keep wondering about. Thanks.. Delphi MF0063

Re: y block fuel pump

Most likely the box was opened by a previous customer who needed to return it and put the bolt and washer in the box thinking they came out of the box.
Now, he's short a bolt and washer and has no idea where he put it.
Was last seen tearing apart an engine, trying to find it. :D:)
Don't think these sort of things happen in the Flathead world.;)
