Leaning to one side
 

My48 has been sitting awhile but its ready for the road. I noticed today looking from the front of the body is leaning lower on the driver side, is this a front or rear spring issue, maybe shocks, could use some advice to correct the problem, just thought of another issue not related to the leaning, I purchased a new fuel pump, should it have a filter screen inside the fuel bowl or will a inline filter be ok.

The bachelor lean as they say. :) Flip the transverse spring or make sure the shocks work.

My car sat for some years with a flat tyre and the shock seized: the spring set in that position. I ended up taking to a spring shop to reset it.

I may be cranky but inline filters doesn´t look right to me...
And there is nice paper filters that fit in the glassbowl if the original meshfilter isn´t doing the job.
Watch out when buying the paperfilters for the glassbowl a lot of the vendors sell the wrong type which is closed having all the crud end up inside the filter.
The correct filter has a hole in the middle letting fuel go down in the glassbowl and then filter...so you see when crud start to pile up.

Flathead. Could you post info on the supplier, p/n and possibly a picture? That would be appreciated by many. Of the filter that is.

And that one fits in the ford fuel pump glass bowl? Did the bowl have a paper filter in it when Henry sold it? Just a later improvement when old tanks went bad?

Yes, it fits in the glass bowl style fuel pumps. There are kits sold where there is a spring that goes between the bottom of the filter and the glass bowl to hold it in place. I've seen the kits in Mac's As far as I know paper filters didn't come with the Fords when new.
Just a fine mesh brass screen and the glass bowl.

Regarding the list. Many years ago I saw Andy Devine, the actor, at least I believe it has him, driving a Cadillac ? and was amazed at the very definite list to port of the car. You would think he would have had the springs re-enforced or something.

i have my 50 cpe filter inline at the tank under the car where the hose from the sender comes from used a steel can filter with 5/16 od nipple also remember springs hold a car up shocks hold the car down when going over bumps unless they have helper springs on them

Here´s the filter i like.
It´s a tight fit in the original AC glassbowls and some other ones with thicker glass it just don´t fit in.
Telltale sign that it´s the correct one is that it has a hole in center for gas to go down in the sediment bowl...
The ones that is closed the crud ends up inside the filter and you can´t tell when they are getting full of crud.

It does get a lil confusing.......
I was able to tell the difference in lean of the car vs fuel filter so I thought I'd help out.
On the matter of the pump and filter.
Flatheadmurre: the pumps I have show the fuel comes from the pump to the outside port in the glass bowl area and the fuel to the carb out the center, top of the bowl area. This way any heavy sediment or water would end up in the bottom of the bowl. In which it does.

In my tonner I have 13 rear leafs on one side and twelve on the other to correct this. I still have only one fuel filter and it never clogs thanks to REDCOAT gas tank sealer so I guess I will quit here....

Try adjusting the "tension" on the U-bolt on the high side..............

The glass bowl was designed as a gravity bowl. It works very well as is. I don't think the filter murre posted would obstruct flow, just catch small inclusions. A good thing.


We can all pat our head and rub our stomach. Not sure there has to be separate threads. Just my opinion.
