Removing the hands on a 46-48 clock Anybody have any experience in removing the hands on a 46-48 Ford clock? I want to convert one to battery operated and use the stock hands.

Re: Removing the hands on a 46-48 clock My 47 has a 9v battery running the clock. It was like that when I got the car. Wish I could help but at least you know it can be done.

Re: Removing the hands on a 46-48 clock Any ideas on how to convert it to 9 volts battery ?

Re: Removing the hands on a 46-48 clock I converted my clock in our '41 and the hands were so delicate that I could not reuse them. Ended up with a battery clock(1-AA bat) from a craft store. Had to do some shimming with spacers to get the movement in the stock case to sit correctly. Made an adapter to go in place of the battery and ran wires out to a battery holder that I could get to.

Did a test on a pulse wound original clock using a 9 volt battery for power. The clock did function normally for 1 hour until disconnected. BUT, what would be the purpose of running the original clock using a 9 volt battery when the car battery is available to power it? |
Re: Removing the hands on a 46-48 clock Yes I have done this. As I recall, I covered the clock face to protect it, took 2 pocket screwdrivers and bent a slight curve in them, and gently pried the hands off. I had to enlarge the holes in the hour hand, then drill a small hole in the minute hand put it on the clock shaft and screw a tiny nut on it to hold it. Not exactly stock appearing but close.

Re: Removing the hands on a 46-48 clock I finally got it off. grabbed the minute hand and gently rocked it from side to side. It took a couple of minutes , but it came off undamaged. Had to gently pry up the hour hand by using a tack puller. The metal on the hour hand is very thin and it bent slightly, but I got it straightened out. Now to find a clock motor with the right length shaft.
