.0435 pistons

I bought a motor Pulled apart to check it over and see if it was worth saving . Discovered a piston issue that i need to replace them due to one being non serviceable. stamped on the top of pistons is .0435 ...I highly doubt that is a common size ? My main question can i put .040 pistons and rings back in..bores look good . or what should i do. Thanks

I would mic the bores to see exactly what you have. Then you can make a determination about piston size.

Check your bore size. A .040 piston may be able to have the skirt knurled oversize and fit just fine. My experience with Model A pistons is that they fit tight to begin with. The engines do run cold compared to modern engines so the pistons don't expand as much. Therefore the pistons are made tighter. Just do a lot of measuring, you should be able to find something that will work just fine.

They may have started with .050OS or blanks and turned to size to fit bore. Was not that uncommon to cam grind pistons to fit. They then stamped the odd size on the top.

Re: .0435 pistons

There are still places that can cam grind pistons, and you can find semi finished pistons
on ebay. I think I might have some.
Or you might be able to have egge make your one.
And all of the above also apply.
