Is anyone re-producing the 56 Fairlane front cross member
 

I have searched the forum, checked e-bay and the internet and can't find anyone who is re-producing the '56 Ford front cross member. Apparently Goodell Fabrications in Coweta, Ok. is out of business. Is there no one else making these?

I think somebody in the 1952 - 1959 Ford social group on the H.A.M.B. has a dimensional drawing and fabbed up his own. I couldn't find it but you might ask over there. Too bad about Goodell...

I just searched Ebay and the only listing that's even close is this one. The description is pretty emphatic that it does NOT fit '55/'56 Ford passenger cars.

Fat Man Fabrications builds complete frames. You might contact them and ask if they'll sell just the front crossmember.

Here is the blue print for 1955-56 Fords if you want one for a 1954 I have that also. If you know of a welding shop interested in making them please contact me and I will pass it along.

I'd be interested in making some up once I retire later in the year and can probably beat that $300 price.

Yes, Gary Goodell has passed on and I think they have ceased operations.
I looked at Fatman's frame on his website and the front cross member doesn't look original. In part I think because they don't use stock suspension.
I was hoping not to have to build my own but the blueprint will be useful if I do. I have one last option. I found an older Hot Rod article in which they replace the front cross member in a 56. A fellow named Gary Dagel apparently made one and installed it. He makes Model A street rod parts and may be able to help me out.

If I were going to make one, I would make it out of minimum 1/16 inch thick steel plate. The drawing above does not take into account the fact that the factory crossmember is taller on the backside, which accounts for the slant downward at the bottom for condensate runoff. I believe that slant should be duplicated and that the very bottom at lowest point should have three equally spaced 1/4" diameter holes for water drainage. The drawing does not show the top piece which is wider than the lower part of the crossmember. I would duplicate that and allow for re-installation of the engine steady-rest mounting piece which would be cut-off the old bad crossmember. Not sure what I would use for the two tubes inside the crossmember, but I would have the split facing downward and only have the pipe spot welded to the inside of the crossmember wall at the top of the pipe to allow it room for expansion when the pins are hammered in.
For painting, I would primer the whole inside and underside of the top piece BEFORE welding of the top piece to the crossmember, using weld-thru primer, and to some degree also spread some rust-o-leum black to the interior of the crossmember before welding the top to the crossmember. Next, the top piece could be welded on to the crossmember. Finally, after sandblasting the old engine steady-rest piece, it would be coated with weld-thru primer top and bottom and welded on to the crossmember assembly. Finally, tape edges to be welded and spray the finished crossmember all over with rust-o-leum black. Now ready to be installed in car frame.

Can't help you but here is a picture of the Front Cross Member for a 1956 Ford Fairlane that you are chasing.
Someone by looking at the picture may have what you are chasing? I hope that this picture helps.
