'Open' Car, rear top window frame. 28/31.
I was under the assumption that all rear top window frames were gloss black or chromed. I have one in my possession that has been black on the outside and showing wood grain on the inside. It appears to be the original finish.
Any thoughts folks?

According to page 10-7 of the Judging Standards, the cabriolets (68 A-B, and C) for 30-31 were wood grained on the inside and either stainless or chrome on the outside of the rear window frame. The Phaetons and roadsters were not wood grained. 400-A convertible sedans were walnut wood grained on the inside.

Another possibility is that cars assembled in Australia did not follow the Ford paint and finish schemes? Perhaps some of our friends from down under can comment?

There were different ones for soft top coupes (Sport & Business) as well as open cars and they changed in size from early to late. Some were a brown color. It just depends on the model and year. Chrome wasn't used much in the first two years. Nickle was more prevalent in 27, 28, & early to mid 29. Stainless was in the mix too but not always.

Canadian manufacturing followed fairly close to US guidelines but they always had some differences. This sort of muddies the water a bit.

Just to Add: The book The Ford Model A "As Henry Built It" has a page devoted to the back light frames on page 69. The earliest ones were bight polish cast aluminum. They list the interior and exterior colors of the different types by body type and date/year. Mocha brown and satin black were used a lot as an interior color. Gray and satin gold beryl were also used as well as some maroon. The Cabriolet used mahogany grain for 30/31 and the Convertible Sedan used black walnut grain. There were three distinct sizes listed depending on model and date/year.
