KRW V12 Instructions

Hi All - does anyone have a set of instructions on how to use the KRW V-126-A to set up a V12 distributor? I’d sure be appreciative!

Re: KRW V12 Instructions

I have tried to use a KRW fixture to set up a V-12. While you can do the timing and dwell on it, I have not found a way to set up (accurately) the LH to RH seperation at 22.5 degrees.... On my Sun Machine its a breeze..

The dwell I set at 35 degrees each side (which can be done on the KRW), and the initial timing is set off of the RH set of points which too can be done like a V8 on the KRW fixture.

Thanks Mike. What Sun unit do you have or recommend?

The back page of my instructions for the krw V8 unit show a V12 distributor being set up on the krw unit without the adapter (the adapter’s purpose is obvious, but the sheet shows it only necessary for “new 8” “new 4” and “new 6”) - “Old 8” and “Zephyr” mounted on the 3-stud part. I just assumed the instructions would be the difference. I’m teaching myself how to work with these tools and really appreciate your insight.

My favorite Sun Machines are the 500 and 504. My primary one is a 500
Let me look for my instructions to accurately state the method or copy them onto here... They can be done on a fixture I only prefer to do the 12's on the machine. Glad to see you teaching yourself!

V8Barn, have you used the KRW before on any other distributor, or is this your first attempt of any kind?

If you're looking at a Lincoln on a distributor machine, remember the Lincoln has a small "odd fire" element to it and the two lots of six cylinder readings will not be evenly spaced.

Hoop thanks as I forgot to look for mine.. There is a typo in these under number 2 on these instructions it should say if the light goes "out", not on.

Personally if you have never used a KRW fixture (glad hoop asked), then you'd be best learning with a V-8.

Honestly attempting to do a V-12 on the KRW fixture is very time consuming, and a bit more confusing than on a machine. I tried to do one on my KRW once and decided it took way too long, and I never could get the seperation exactly right.

I wish I had someone here to hold a video camera as I have a V-12 to do tommorow.

The KRW instructions do not make it clear as to what your objective is. You are essentially building and setting up two seperate 6 cylinder distributors and then syncing them 22.5 degrees apart. Syncing them is very important and it seems most skip that step.

Yes about a dozen times in the last 10 years but I’m about to make myself an expert in it! Thanks so much for your help!

Re: KRW V12 Instructions

Hi Mike thanks again! Yeah I kinda figured I’d have to think of it as “two 6s”. In the meantime I guess I should keep an eye out for a Sun to see if it’s something I can swing anytime soon. Much appreciated is the assistance!

Eric

Hoop you don’t happen to have the instructions for the new 4 and new 6 do you? I appreciate your time.
