Rear Axle Nuts

Previous post on rear axle nuts was about torque. I have my 33 rear hubs off for brakes. The nuts are a bit sad, where to get reliable repos ?.
Would grade 8 be ok ?.

Re: Rear Axle Nuts

I've heard bad things about some repros. I would look for NOS ones or known quality new ones.

For NOS ones, I would check with "Southside Obsolete" ("barnfind08" on here). That guy seems to have everything!

Re: Rear Axle Nuts

DO NOT use axel nuts from any source unless they are confirmed to be good used originals, real NOS parts, or new repro parts confirmed to be equivalent in all respects to oem parts.
The aftermarket axel nuts that were being supplied by some parts dealers, were not manufactured using the correct material, or hardened correctly to withstand the torque requirement to properly mount a tapered hub on a similarly tapered axel. When using these poor quality nuts, and trying to torque them to specs, the nut threads will strip, and in some cases the axel threads will be damaged enough to require replacement.
