1939 Mercury sedan coin bank car

Has anyone ever seen one of these coin bank cars? Does anyone know anything about them? I was told it was a promotional thing

That is a neat collection of Mercury Money Boxes. However, I think they look more like 1940 models, not 1939?

I think so too because of the front end but most of the ones for sale say 39

They were as you suspected, a promotional giveaway.
I have five of them - different colors. I, like others, think they are '40.

You need? I find it humorous what guys like you and I "need".
I have never seen a coupe version nor any advertisement that would suggest they were ever offered.

I learned a long time ago . . . when I say "need", I really mean "want"! LOL I have an unrestored 40 Merc coupe - hence the reason I "want" one! Maybe if I put gold coins in it, by the time it is full, I'll have enough to restore the Merc!

Yeah, when I hear "need" I usually chuckle. My wife currently "needs" another show horse. She'll get it of course - I can't say no to that gal :)

My best friend always says "Once man invented Fire & the wheel his "needs" were met!"

I'm guessing she's probably much prettier than you and if so, likely NEEDS a new show horse just because. DD

Mine just got a new 2020 Explorer Limited. 55 years married and want to keep her happy. she puts up with my old car hobby , so it's the least I could do.

I just now looked up that eBay ad... man oh man, her late husband was lying to her. $600? Um, not on a great day....

Good for you TJ. I always (sincerely) enjoy hearing a fella that still loves his wife. That's how it's SUPPOSED to be.
I've got twenty-one years in with my beautiful bride. Best thing ever happened to me.
The 2020 Explorer sounds like a deal compared to another horse. I'd try that if I thought there was remote chance she'd drive a new Ford.

You have to be careful with that new vehicle approach. Got the lady a 2019 Ford Ranger. Special ordered with ALL the items she wanted. When it came in, we went to the dealer. There the Ranger was. But next to it was a new Ford Raptor. She walked right past her new Ford Ranger toward the Raptor. She said she wanted that one.
Have attempted to satisfy the Raptor envy with adding a Ford Raptor nameplate to the rear tailgate of the Ranger. (Raptor Ranger....sorta has a nice ring to it)

I dated mine for 5 years, but I was coming off a divorce, so I was taking my time. She hung around until I made up my mind. Her happiness is important to me. She loves old cars, too, so I am lucky in many ways.

No comment on the original topic. I remember a 39 Ford AMT kid from my youth. I thought they had a coupe and sedan version.

I know this thread went sideways a bit in large part due to me.
Still, it's neat to hear there are some guys out there that actually love their wives as they should.
Me? I asked her to marry me two weeks after we'd met. Neither of us was "looking" but somehow found each other.
I'm like a high school kid around her 21 years later :)
