C69 stock head installation - left vs right I have short block back from the machinist and wish to temporarily attach the stock cast heads. He did blast them, and they are crack free, so au wish to install them. However, when I purchased the engine it was already disassembled, so I have no idea which head goes where. Does it matter, and if so, how do I discern the left from the right? Thanks.

Re: C69 stock head installation - left vs right Zig...If the heads are marked with 6049 and 6050 numbers, 6049 is the passenger side head, and 6050 is driver side. DD

Re: C69 stock head installation - left vs right Great. I don't have any pics on me, so when I get home tonight I'll check and post.

Re: C69 stock head installation - left vs right I believe that for replacements, Ford only cast the 6049 head as they were interchangeable. I do know that on my concourse 40, judges look for the 6049 and 6050 heads.

Re: C69 stock head installation - left vs right head numbers will be across from each other on the back of the block

Re: C69 stock head installation - left vs right 1 Attachment(s)
The numbers on the heads are the C7RA-A. Both have the Ford script cast below the aforementioned code, and below that one has a "1" and the other a "3".

Zig...Now that we see what you really have, the C7RA is the 1947 replacement for the 1946 C69 heads ('46-'48 engines are essentially identical). Your two heads are the same head. Good news is that the aluminum ones (like you have) are supposedly good for about 1 point higher compression than iron heads. Click this link below for a better understanding of the Canadian Ford heads....good reading! DD https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showt...ght=c7ra+heads |
Re: C69 stock head installation - left vs right Thanks. I really wish they were aluminum, but they are cast iron. Actually a search of the net brought up another thread I started here about head bolt lengths. Lol.
I also came across this thread on the Barn from 2010 that gives a lot of detail. https://fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4214 |
