1932: Bixby Bridge, Big Sur, Ca 1 Attachment(s)
A local friend of mine shared this photo so I am forwarding it on. Bixby Bridge was completed in 1932. Prior to that, all inhabitants south of it had to go all the way around to get to Monterey.
Interesting for us that at the time of this foto, there are two Early Ford V8’s. Looks like a ‘32 Sport Coupe and a Standard ‘40? Sad that the little hotel and restaurant are long gone, replaced this last year or so by scores of tourists blocking the road taking selfies. Oh well, life goes on, hopefully with a 1930’s Ford. |
Re: 1932: Bixby Bridge, Big Sur, Ca Very cool

Re: 1932: Bixby Bridge, Big Sur, Ca I drive down that way often. Same every weekend or holiday at Bixby Bridge. CHP cannot keep up with it and writing parking citations is futile as most are tourists in rental cars from other states or from other countries. Total mess.

Re: 1932: Bixby Bridge, Big Sur, Ca Yearly visits to Big Sur Campgrounds in the 47 Ford wagon took us over that bridge.
Beautiful area, |
Re: 1932: Bixby Bridge, Big Sur, Ca A great picture of a classic bridge. Across the road from the old Fords you can see where the old coast road goes off to the left. I haven't driven that road for a number of years but I assume it is still the same and most likely hasn't changed much since 1932, unpaved and winding, a beautiful drive south from the bridge to where it meets highway 1 again at Andrew Molera State Park.
