Re: 32 PU rear brake drum loose There is likely a problem with the taper on the axle or in the hub. Use Prussian blue to determine the contact of the taper between hub and axle. There may be a burr preventing good contact. Do this with the key removed. The problem could be the key.

Re: 32 PU rear brake drum loose If you are running hydraulic brakes invest in a set of brake drum clips or safety hubs to keep the drum on in case of an axle failure. If the drum was that loose there is a good chance a crack has started in the axle that will eventually fail.
Has your axle and/or keyway been destroyed by a loose hub? How about a picture? Is it loose after the axle nut is torqued down? Charlie Stephens |
Re: 32 PU rear brake drum loose thnx all ..srock 32 mech brakes ..axle looks OK ..so i think I will try a shim..I taking unit to Tom Endy for 3.54 gear change ..I will get his opinion also..I will put drum back on and torque it after I get shoes off and see how it turns and clearence etc....sc

Re: 32 PU rear brake drum loose You can use some valve grinding compound between the hub and the axle. Turn it back and fort to remove any minor imperfections. Clean it well and assemble.
