Changing cam without removing lifters

1 Attachment(s)
Overnight two of my rubber bands failed. Two adjustabil lifters fell out the bottom. Will I be able to get them back in from the bottom? Cam is out of the engine.
Thanks Pete

If it fell out it will go back in. Pull valve out, Run a string to the adjuster from above to help pull it back in place. Or just pull guide and valve out. That certainly is a novel approach you have there! Next time use aircraft tie wire instead of rubber bands.

You are going to install a new cam on used lifters??

Less than 2 hours on rebuilt. Same cam with L100 profile.

You have my curiosity up now, why are you changing the cam?

Gene that’s an easy answer. Everyone wants a “Smiley Cam” 🤣

Yeah Tony I get it. :) The reason I asked was the way he worded it, I thought he might be changing a L100 for another L100.

If it's a new rebuild wouldn't it be easier to just pull the valve assemblies?

The last time I tried a shortcut like that it only took me three hours more to finish the job. :)
Pretty neat trick though.

Old farm boy saying: "Sometimes the long way around the barn is the quick way home". (The bull won't chase you all around the pasture).
Shortcuts aren't always shorter! Fun to try, though!

How about if you had the engine upside down?

OK guys with a wand type magnet got all lifters in place and secure. Cam should arrive from Tony in a few days.Engine is going in my 38 coupe.
Thanks, Pete

Looks like you have it on an engine stand so I am kinda liking the the turn the engine upside down idea.

We all have those special tools and gadgets we have created to work on these babies over the years. Guess I'll add rubber bands to my "stuff box". Chap

Don't forget the clothes pins, wooden dowel rod, sewing thread and super glue, always come in handy .I have kept the above in my Road tool box for years .
