rear brake single shoe ,emerg brake history
 

I have seen artcles about early 1927 and early 28 Model A having one shoe in rear brakes and then forced to add emerg shoe ..whats the history on this ? reason I ask is my 32 has only one shoe on rear brakes ,why was ford forced to add emerg shoe on model A but not on 32 ? seems a bit odd ..

In the case of the ModelA,the revised rear brakes came with a stepped drum to accomodate the emergency brake band. The early models simply picked up the service brake with the hand brake lever. As for the 32 maybe some one left them off.

The '32 used the service brakes for the emergency brakes. The interesting thing is that they used the the brakes on all 4 wheels for the emergency brake.

The separate emergency brake system was because of many 'foreign'markets required it by law. Many European countries, Japan & some of the Commonwealth countries all had to have the separate hand brake system.
This also occurred for the 1932 B/V8 where most of the cars exported from Nth America had double brake rods & double cross shafts. Cheers Tom in NZ
