Head crack possibly
 

Hello all, so I picked up this high compression head at a swap and would like to use it. However after getting home and cleaning it I found what looks like a crack on top of the head. It does not seem deep from what I can tell. Has anybody seen this before and is it ok to use?Attachment 396178

cracked all the way from freezing, can be fixed with metal stitching---and other methods, or patched with glue----i would look on the other side for cracks too ---cracks from the holes in the center are common and some have no impact for use

Get it magnafluxed before going any further,first,to see if that actually is a crack (most likely) second to see if there are any other cracks.

Like the others have mentioned, Get it crack inspected "magnafluxed" and see if there are other cracks in combustion chambers or anywhere else. it can be fixed as we repair this type of crack using metal stitching.

Not a head but I purchased a exhaust heater manifold and then found a slight crack. had it magnafluxed and then asked if it could be welded! My guy took a look at it and said, "do your really want to mess with exhaust fumes on something like this?" I pitched it. A head is a little different. Get it magnafluxed and go from there!

New manifolds are dirt cheap and the old ones warp. You would spend more money on getting one tested and repaired than it would be to buy a brand new manifold.

Thats a long crack. To stitch weld it would cost a lot, they charge by the inch. If the chamber side of the head looks good, I would V-grind the crack and use JB weld on it.
The JB weld will last years and if it leaks years down the road, just do it again.
