New door glass question.
 

Do you use setting tape where the glass sits in the bottom channel? I have new reproduction glass channels and the are very tight without tape. Not sue if the tape would fit.

I used the setting rubber material, but the channels were originals, making sure they were clean and clear the entire length of the channel. The glass did fit snug, but working slowly and with even pressure, I got a good fit.

Some of the reproduction bottom glass channels are not made correctly. They are too narrow.


You may have to open up the channel a bit.


You need the setting tape to correctly secure the glass in the channel.

I needed and purchased 1/64" setting tape for an original Model A windshield frame (new safety glass ~.250 thick as I recall) and it was a tight fit.

For Model A, 1926 Model T, and 1937 Hudson Terraplane window channels, the tape the Model vendors supply, which is 3/64" thick, works very well with glass of the same thickness. The original window channels (even in near NOS condition) have more ability to yield than does the windshield frame so can accommodate a thicker package going in.

Yes you need the setting tape. It also works as cushion between the glass and the steel channel, to keep the glass from chipping or breaking.

Hence the small crack (growing larger) that has now developed.
