1937 Ford inner fender bolts Can someone tell me if the low profile bolts that bolt the front fenders to the inner fender are 5/16" or 1/4"? Thanks, Bill

Re: 1937 Ford inner fender bolts Bill,
The low profile carriage bolts are 1/4" - 28 NF. gregg |

Re: 1937 Ford inner fender bolts Glad to help Bill, don't hesitate to ask for help. I am not an expert, but have a couple 37's in various states of restoration.

Re: 1937 Ford inner fender bolts I'll have a good look around, I may still have one of the originals, although I took it apart about 10 years ago and threw out most of the really rusty bolts.

Re: 1937 Ford inner fender bolts 1 Attachment(s)
ok, found a couple, yes they are 1/4" I've attached a photo of the old bolt.

Re: 1937 Ford inner fender bolts Thanks you guys. I am happy to have learned something.
Man oh man, 1/4" seems small. Perhaps there was a reason they were changed to 5/16" later??? Do any of you '37 guys know if there were issues in this are during '37? |

35 and 36 Fords used 5/16 NF....so pre 37 models used the larger bolts too |
Re: 1937 Ford inner fender bolts Weight savings! :)

Re: 1937 Ford inner fender bolts 2 Attachment(s)
Not sure why they would have gone lighter, but my car was all original when I got it, it had never been apart and it had the 1/4" fine thread bolts.

Re: 1937 Ford inner fender bolts I am not familiar with any cars other than 37. On the 37, the apron bolts onto the fender perimeter (on top) and the side panels fit (nestle) in between the fender and some apron tabs. For a good clean fit, the bolts must be very low profile. Perhaps that is what drove the 1/4" size?
Note, for the apron to frame connection points, 5/16" bolts were used. gregg |
