35 v8 flathead oil pan removel Hey,
As mentioned earlier, I come from Europe and my English is not very good. I have a 35 Ford convirble V8 sedan. Is it possible to remove the oil pan when the engine stays in the car? or does the complete engine have to be taken out of the car ...? |
Re: 35 v8 flathead oil pan removel It takes some viggling to get it out...
Front pulley needs to come out a bit...need to loosen front motor mounts and crank has to be in a certain position if i remember right. If you´re going for honing i would pull it since cleaning is a major pain with it installed... |
Re: 35 v8 flathead oil pan removel no, i am not honing it. I want to get the pistons out.
what do you mean with front pulley needs to come out...? |
Re: 35 v8 flathead oil pan removel You can´t remove the oilpan with the front pulley in place has to unbolt and knock it out a bit.
Otherwise the pan gets stuck between crank and pulley. If you´re going to rering it you usually run a hone down the bores...that´s why i asked about honing. |
Re: 35 v8 flathead oil pan removel I did not know that you always had to hone when you fitted new piston rings
|
Re: 35 v8 flathead oil pan removel When you get your pistons out you need to measure the wear to see if its worth the time and money to hone and re-ring the orig pistons.

This is why I told you in you're other post, IF you pull the heads and pistons to either "borrow a dial bore gage OR Buy one from any machine tool supply house (They are maybe $100.00 US at the most) and check the cylinders wear........that will tell you how much wear, and how straight the cylinders are AND IF you are wasting you're time "re ringing" the pistons!!!! |
Re: 35 v8 flathead oil pan removel piet
I just amazon-ed this one, its $99.95 but IF you shop around you could probably find one a little cheaper. https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon....AL._SX679_.jpg |
Re: 35 v8 flathead oil pan removel thanks for the tips. I can almost take the car on the lift. So i can see how bad the engine is.

Piet, Here is an article from an old NAPA manual describing oil pan removal. Hope it helps.

Re: 35 v8 flathead oil pan removel as you said, I first took the heads off. One is already finished. the other is a thread in the water pump. Anyone have any idea how to get this loose ..? I don't want to destroy anything.
