F100 rear drum brake assemblies to Model A

Have seen many articles for installing F100 front brakes to Model A's, but how are the F100 rear drum brakes installed on a Model A rear axle? Cannot find any information about this swap, any help very appreciated. Mick

Can't help with the rear brake install, but am looking for the information you mentioned regarding the front. Can you send me links for that?

Thanks.

Bill

I put them on the front, you will need later spindles with a modification to fit.. off the top of my head 37-41 or 42-48 spindles with a modification by grinder. You're also going to modifiy the wheel bearing cage slightly for taper. You can find info on The Hamb. I have complete instructions, including the correct wheel bearings to buy and modify. I can scan and send if you need them. I don't believe the rears swap, everyone uses 39-48 Ford rears.

Google F100 brakes to Model A, early Ford spindles, or anything similar. Also check Ford Barn archive posts, you will receive many articles of information. Hope this helps you. Mick

Thanks for the scan, Greg.

Do you have any hints for adapting the Model A wire wheels to the F100 drum/hub assembly?

Regards,

Bill

Bill, That's why I sold my 16" wire wheels and went to 40 ford steel wheels. I don't think F100's adapt to wires easily, if at all. You can adapt 40 Ford drums to wires with an adapter, but it will space the wheel out slightly. I want a lake style banger, so the steel wheels are perfect for my build. The bendix F100 brakes are a solid choice, but more for steel wheels. I would just do the early Ford hydraulics if I were you. You can use your original spindles and wire wheels!
