NOS Airtex Fuel Pump - Worth it?

I came across this today on kijiji (Craig's List for Canada)

Was wondering if this is anything or worth it.

Well, Airtex is still in business and the diaphragm is guaranteed for 50,000 miles, so why not?:)

Modern gas will probably dissolve old diaphragm.

Yep the diaphragm will be a licorice gum drop before your eyes once any kind of today's gas gets to it. Check the location of the ports. I do like these pumps for multi carb setups
they have a good look and the valves are always wet which helps self priming.

I bought one of those, but put a new kit in it to replace the old dried out rubber

That pump is known as "the bus pump", a high volume pump used on Ford rear engine city buses starting in 1944.
Favored by hot rodders during the flatheads prime days.
It's an AC pump & diaphragms are available.

Thanks. Good to know. I’ll pass as I have no real need for a higher flow pump. Was asking CAN$150.

150 can, wow. Last (and only) pump I bought was a old 'rebuilt' one that had been stored many years. Because it was old (but still looked clean and fresh), the seller asked 5 dollars (us), and cautioned that it would probably have 'old-diaphragm' problems. I put in a new, modern diaphragm, and it has been running for the last few years. I must be old, and out of touch, or, very lucky at a local swap meet.

You are out of touch & lucky.

Yep, spent only CAN$100 for my flathead, but I'm many many times that now just in parts.

I have an older mechanical pump for mine with a glass sediment bowl, but I have removed the pushrod and I will run a hidden electric pump and regulator to control the pressure. I will have the fuel come from the hidden pump and reg up and through the pump just for show.

Do you have a link or part number for which kit you installed for modern diaphragm?

Re: NOS Airtex Fuel Pump - Worth it?

Today, most people have never heard of the "bus pumps". They are a nice vintage accessory for anyone building an old-time hot rod. I believe they are identified by the 10 screws holding the diaphragm. I have two new bus pumps stashed away. One is an old Airtex box with the same part number as this one, It says on the box Ford Spl, 1943-1944.

We only used Airtex pumps at the phone company and they always lasted as long as the OEM pumps.
