What is the best head bolt thread sealer ? Years ago I used FEL PRO Gray Bolt Prep # GRA2. It was the best. Now it's no longer being made. Contacted Permatex and they recommended ULTRA GREY TORQUE GASKET MAKER # 82194.
https://www.autozone.com/sealants-gl...ker/306563_0_0 I am dubious. What do you folks recommend for thread sealer flathead head bolts? Thank you. JIM |

Re: What is the best head bolt thread sealer ? 3M 8001 weatherstrip cement
Used for many years on hundreds of engines where bolt/stud goes into water jacket from stock to full blown race engines. Never a leak! In the 80-90's it was the standard in NASCAR to use on valve cover gaskets so you would never have a leak. Cheers Tony |

Re: What is the best head bolt thread sealer ? Is some anti-seize out of question here for non race motors? Not a true sealer but makes the bolts come out and gumms up the water flow. I don't know though.

Re: What is the best head bolt thread sealer ? Jess you want sealing and threadlocking...with anti-seize the studs will come out any time you want to remove the head...
I use loctite pipethread sealer...has a fixed torque rate...meaning it holds the stud but not in an absolute irongrip if you want to remove it. |
Re: What is the best head bolt thread sealer ? Hey Murre, thank you. I at least know, anti-seize changes torque values. Just curious, something like perm gen1# indianhead or anti-seize is bad. Just curious.

Re: What is the best head bolt thread sealer ? Permatex nr1 is hard setting so works great in that aplication.
