Check engine light

The check engine light keeps illuminating on my 39 pickup but I can't find the plug in point for my OBD-II code reader. Anyone know where it is?

Reminds me when I call for my yearly inspection for the '41, the first question they ask, is the "check engine light on" my response "it doesn't have one", "what da you mean it doesn't have one?","it was built in 1941". "Oh".

Re: Check engine light

And the check engine light procedure actually involves opening the hood...which will amaze some modern mechanics...lol

I use the 85% flex fuel, and the check engine light goes off and stays off. ;)

Speaking of those stupid CEL’s, my wife’s OT 2012 F150 has a CEL on all winter! It’s due to the fact that it’s pugged in and cold -30/40 air coming in to a warm intake. Did it since brand new and Ford has no solution for it. So IF there is a REAL problem I guess I’ll find out when something blows up!

I bought my 2007 Dodge cummins 6.7L truck new. Check engine light on since new and dealer in Palatka,Fl. couldn't fix it. Just had to replace ECM for $3800. My old ones didn't
Have ECM.

If you turn on your dashboard lights, the oil, temp and electric gauges qualify.

I've invented a "check engine light" cancellation system. It's cleverly disguised as a piece of black electrical tape.

It’s the ONE bulb in a car that will NEVER burn out!

Re: Check engine light

Ive been daily driving for at least 5 years now, probably 6 with my trusty 35 pick up its never failed to get me home , even with a collapsed cluster bearing, a worn ring gear, dodgey starter, Ive always made it home. My mate who has recently returned here to live has bought two relatively modern cars [later than 2005] both have failed him already, leaving him stranded and needing a tow truck. I went to look at the Hyundai for him and when he was trying to start the car and I could see the timing belt & gears not moving .. well I just said its all over mate!..

Re: Check engine light

While we're all having a good chuckle over the CEL, here's a little extra to think about.

I've suggested for a long time that cars are being built and sold with extra software installed ... ready for use when called upon. Think OnStar. Technology is really available and cheap.

It's been reported that some serious emissions states are discussing having the Check Engine Light report when it illuminates ..... !

It would take very, very little to accomplish this. And, who knows what other tattletale technology is hidden in your vehicles ... just waiting to be called to testify.

Hang on to your oldies.

As long as we're having fun here, I'll add a story. Several years ago, I had an older neighbor of Czechoslovakian ancestry. He was very proud of it and referred to his family as the "Crazy Wondra's". He got a brand new Mercury in 1993, of which he was also very proud. I told him he should be, as the engine in the car was made in Bohemia. He was kind of astonished, but pleased with that fact, but asked me how I knew. I reached in and turned on the ignition and said "See for yourself". He looked in, and sure enough, there in red letters in the middle of the instrument cluster it said "Check Engine". Insert groans here.
