T5 Speedo question

I’m in the process of getting the parts ready to fit a T5 into the Cabriolet and would like to know how others have sorted out the speedometer problem. The trans I am intending to use has the electronic speedo version.I would like if at all possible to keep my original speedo and don’t want a gps one either.

I’m guessing an electronic aftermarket speedometer is going to be the answer but thought I’d throw it out there to see what others have come up with.

Speedhut makes a unit that allows you to connect a mechanical spedo to a trans that has an electronic drive. Google Speedhut.com

Re: T5 Speedo question

There is an advertiser on the Hamb that converts your electronic tail shaft to a mechanical. Or, just find a mechanical tail shaft T5 and swap it out. In either case in my old 40 coupe with T5 I was able to use the stock 40 speedo cable and if memory serves me it was about 5mph off .... but that all depends on rear gear, tire size. Now, to be truthful, I use a cheap eBay purchased used Tom Tom and my speed is calculated by it.

I've used the conversion referenced above. Search for Kato Kings on the HAMB. he can convert your electronic to mechanical and if you tell him gear ratios and tire size, it'll be set up accurately. He knows his stuff.

Abbott industries make a speedometer adapter electronic in to cable out .http://www.abbott-tach.com/cablex.htm
I think these are USA made . Great unit , but a PIA to calibrate but once you are done calibrating to get the exact speed you are done.

Or this way , a hidden Sky drive unit with a cable drive out put .

I've had a cable X box for about 4 years. Works perfectly!
