Thought you may enjoy some pics of a recent Ford Coupe Run from Canterbury to Greymouth to Reefton and Berlins.

The 39 Deluxe coupe , exterior paint still not completed, has recently been finished and complied for road use. What better way than to organise a Ford Coupe Run, 37 Sedan had a special pass to attend.
36 Coupe from Hari Hari Westland, 39 Coupe Red from Greymouth, 39 Coupe Blue from Canterbury, remaining cars were from Motueka.

Berlins was picked as a central area to meet. Great summer weather run.

The yellow 39 deluxe is ex USA, very nice engine bay and running A/C also.
The maroon firewall is in the just completed 39 deluxe coupe. This car is ex USA courtesy Chris Tompkins, now a RHD car.

What a great looking group of cars, assortment of colors and models, pick your favorite one. Gives me inspiration to get back to work, when it warms up a little.

Yea once you get out and driving its magic as always. Here in NZ great summer weather still. But as with these things there are the odd hicup also.
Crusing along thinking to myself nowhere else to be, hum of the flathead
windows down nice warm breeze good scenery when!!!

Clatter clatter and engine died! On a flat section of road so pulled over to check it out! Hood up and woo. Seemed to have dropped off a blade off the cooling fan!! Fan mounted on generator on my 39 standard coupe.
The high tension lead was severed hence engine stop, was a good thing!!
A club member who was out at a car show in his Mark 3 Ford Zepher stopped by for some moral support.

Plus side The broken off blade contacted the back side of the radiator but as luck would have it did not puncture the radiator! Removed the fan, fitted a new high tension lead checked it all out and off I went.
So with care did not miss out on the run and all went well. Arrival West Coast, Stillwater, removed both thermostats until permanent repairs can be done. My friend who i was staying with supplied me with another, fan plus another generator for back up.
So on inspection of the fan where the blade had let go, only 2 small areas of shinny metal, suggesting this was an old crack and was just waiting to let go. Had my usual spares onboard, so had the replacement high tension lead. No more real problems bar some starting issues when hot.

Today, Skip's rebuilt coil fitted, no need now for the high tension lead, new condenser ex 3rd Generation. Checked generator and fitted end cover and bearing assembly ex supplied unit from friend. Fitted up new fan, fired right up. Alls now good again ready to hit the road for more fun.
The basic spares and tools along with a lot of luck in my case got me going again on the road. Did not manage to find the missing fan blade!!
Joys of flathead motoring.

It's great that the old car guys in both AU and NZ seem to get their cars/trucks out for some serious drives. The names of the places you went didn't mean anything to me, so I googled them. That is a good long drive, and must be gorgeous country! Congrats on overecoming the challenges of on-road repairs, too! (they build charactor, LOL!)

Youre not wrong there.Good character building stuff and abilty to overcome without "panic", this can be hard. The country and scenery is great again especially from behind the wheel of an old Ford flathead.

Phil interesting bumper guard on that maroon 46. I knew a bloke who had a black 46 with one of those...got it from Horopito but I have never seen another. What's the cars rego? might be the same one repainted.

So, your friend in Stillwater must be Joe? Why not do a fordbarn feature on Joe? Could be voted 'thread of the year'!!

Yes Brian you are correct there. We had a good run from his place to Reefton then on to Berlins. The 2 39 standard coupes and the 36 coupe at a moderate pace slow enough to admire the views which was great.
Was in the middle, 36 ahead and 39 in the rear, great views instead of all the modern stuff.
