32 5-Window Rubber Gasket Install Any tips on how to remove the old, cracked outside rubber windshield gasket and installing the new one? Who has the best gasket?
Thanks for any help you can give ..... |
Re: 32 5-Window Rubber Gasket Install Can't say who has the best gasket. I normally use Drake gaskets. Removing the old gasket is a matter of making sure the grove where the new one goes is very clean. You'll need to use some items like an ice pick, an angled pick, and a small screw driver to get down into the groove to remove old rubber. I'm assuming you will have the windshield out of the car to do the job. It's not fun with the windshield still in the car and very difficult to get the groove completely clean. To re-install the new gasket you will need a lubricant(WD-40, dish soap, etc) to slip the new gasket into the groove..

Re: 32 5-Window Rubber Gasket Install One thing to keep in mind when you install the new gasket. The 'memory' of the rubber will cause it to pull out of the channel in the windshield frame, especially at the lower corners, if the rubber is under any stress from the installation. In other words, move the rubber back and forth in the channel to ensure that it isn't tighter side-to-side in one part of the frame than in other parts.

Re: 32 5-Window Rubber Gasket Install What David said. I ruined a high dollar BD gasket trying to get it in the channel. Nicked the bottom corner and #@!!&**, it was junk.
