Fuel pump pushrod bushing

Hey guys, how do you remove the fuel pump pushrod bushing ?
Looks like I need to tap into it and pull it out with a slide hammer ?
Working on a 40 221 ..
Thanks ..

Why do you need to remove it.? Usually any wear in it is not critical to good operation. Regards, Kevin.

Hey Kevin, its oblong and I was thinking it served a purpose

That would be strange to have that much wear. They are hardened, so it would difficult to tap.

Wow, oblong shaped or is it more oval shaped ? I have never seen one worn like that. There was a special collett type tool for removing those bushes, but maybe a small slide hammer would be able to just hook into one side of the lower edge to extract it. They could be replaced by knocking them downwards when the engine is pulled down with the camshaft removed. Regards, Kevin.

You need a special driver to install itI only replaced one and after that, found alittle slop didn;t matter much. On the 8 BA's I drive them down. However this is only done when I don't want the oil restriction tey provide. O turn the rear cam bearing 90Degs abd tap and plug the hole. Not really necessary on a street engine.
