Bearing conversion Hi all,
I am going to rebuild my rear axle, i rang a bearing shop to see what the bearings would cost. They did not have much luck with the numbers on the bearing so far. Wondering if anyone knows what a Ford BB1240A bearing converts to in an SKF or Timken as an example it would be appreciated. Cheers Corey |
Re: Bearing conversion Instead of trying to cross reference extinct part numbers, I have always managed to get replacement bearings by measuring the ones that are to be replaced.

Re: Bearing conversion What year rear axle ? And what is it in? Timken 462 is a replacement for BB1240A

Re: Bearing conversion Like Ken said SKF or Timken 462 is the replacement.
This is the outer rear wheel bearing for the full floating rear axle. |

Re: Bearing conversion Hi Guys,
Thanks for all the replies i really appreciate it. I will measure the bearing and also take it with me when i go to town to make sure it is correct. I was just trying Over the phone to get an idea of price, the bearing shop is not just down the street for me and usually isn't cheap so it helps me to decide where to buy from. The bearing is definately the BB1240A as i have the bearing out and can read it, will pull the other one of of the hub to make sure if it's the sames number. The bearing is out of an axel in a 42 1 1/2 tonne truck, i am unsure of the brand of this axel as yet. Eaton? Cheers Corey |
