52 Fender Skirts
 

Any 52 Mercury owners on here have fender skirts on their car? I've heard of a pair that are as yet unidentified but might fit the Mercury. Wondering how they attach to the car. They are too far away to go and look at but pictures are a possibility. Here is a sample picture of what they would look like installed on a car.

Hope these help, as they show the mounting brackets on the skirt and the two in the fender well. The top clip hooks onto the top lip of the opening and is held in place when you rotate the bottom bar back up and clip it back into the shirt. Yes these are on a 53' Merc, but quite sure they are the same.

Mercruzer, thanks very much for those pics. Very helpful. Yes, 52-53 would take the same. The pictures I have of these look like the right shape but I didn't realize there was a clip that needs to be attached to the fender for the skirts to lock in to. Mine does not have that. I will try to attach pictures of the skirts in question.

Based on what can be seen, these appear to be aftermarket 'Foxcraft' skirts (not original) and are missing some mounting components.

Thanks for the input. I am starting to think they are a little too "rich" for my old rusty Merc. From the asking prices I have seen on ebay for used ones, plus shipping. Then I'd need to buy the mounting clips extra. New pair on Mac's is $155 U.S. so they'd be well over $200 by the time they made the trip here.

Any salvage yards up your way? They were quite common, you could pick up a pair very reasonably, I would guess. Just a thought. If you go that route, take a drill with you, the brackets appear to be popriveted onto the body.

Those are aftermarket skirts. Study Merc Cruzer's photo and notice that there is no rolled edge on the bottom. These are factory skirts and most of the aftermarket have the rolled lower edge like '51 Merc's had.

Those skirts have a way different contour for the wheel opening too, compared to the ones that Merc Cruzer posted.

Are you saying they don't look like they would fit the Merc? I did a rough measurement of the wheel opening on the Merc today (brief at -10F) and looks about 32 inch long by 6 inch high.
