1941 Garwood Dump box hoist Hydraulic fluid type? I realize this may not be the best place to post this question, but figured maybe someone here would know. I'm trying to figure out what type of hydraulic fluid to use on my Garwood Model D6. I'm guessing something made for tractors of the same time period should be ok? like JD20a compliant?

Re: 1941 Garwood Dump box hoist Hydraulic fluid type? Dump truck hydraulics are all still pretty much the same as they have always been. The brand doesn't matter as much as the characteristics. An anti wear type or "AW" with a viscosity of ISO-32 is a good all around type of hydraulic oil. Just look for AW-32 in your preferred brand names. The higher pressure systems will use higher viscosity oils but dump trucks are generally relatively low pressures around 600 to 800 psi.

Re: 1941 Garwood Dump box hoist Hydraulic fluid type? I just filled the system on my 47 dump truck with ISO 46 upon the recommendation of my retired friend who worked as a hydraulic engineer. It has a 5 cubic yard box on it.

Re: 1941 Garwood Dump box hoist Hydraulic fluid type? it would also depend of what region you live in. and work you plan to do with it. 32 weight oïl is good all year . if its only summer use maybe 68 .

Re: 1941 Garwood Dump box hoist Hydraulic fluid type? Garwood made some impressive boats. Same company making dump truck hydraulics?

Re: 1941 Garwood Dump box hoist Hydraulic fluid type? 1 Attachment(s)
Garwood have been around for a long long time. My 56 F-5 had a garwood dump & I just used tractor fluid in it. I think any hydraulic oil would work.

Re: 1941 Garwood Dump box hoist Hydraulic fluid type? Just pick up 5 gals at Napa. Approved for Cat Ford/New Holland and many more. You
will be fine. The dump truck logic means it has a low duty cycle v/s the duty cycle of perhaps an excavator working all day. My trucking days 10 loads delivered a day was pretty well normal counting loading time, over the road time so the oil never will get hot. I have a Ford skidd steer that requires plain ole #10 weight, and hdrostatic systems are way more sophisticated than a one way piston low duty cycle on a dump truck. I don't get the #10 oil, but its in the book......... |
Re: 1941 Garwood Dump box hoist Hydraulic fluid type? how about posting some pictures of your hoists ! i bought a old dumb cylinder a few years ago for my project truck. it will need alot of work to get it working again.
don,t want to change the subject though. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...f36f47934b.jpg |

Re: 1941 Garwood Dump box hoist Hydraulic fluid type? ISO-32 is basically equivalent to SAE-10 in viscosity. Here is a link.

Re: 1941 Garwood Dump box hoist Hydraulic fluid type? Thanks for the info guys, I’ll just run the same stuff I run in all my John deers. Garfield wood started out making hoists before building speed boats. At one point he had more patents than anyone in America.
