38 trunk lock cylinder I am looking for some help removing the lock cylinder on my 38 trunk handle, there is a key broken off in the cylinder and it is in the horizontal position. Any thoughts?

Re: 38 trunk lock cylinder I have had some limited success removing broken keys using a fine dental pick with a small hook on the end. Make sure everything is well lubed.... once the key is out you can clean the lube out.
If the handle is still on the car ……. AND it is the correct key you maybe able to turn the cylinder 90 degrees and remove the lock cylinder and then push the key out from the rear of the cylinder. If you are concerned about damaging stuff it may have to go to the hospital...... ...if you want my help.... PM me here on the barn after April 7th |
Re: 38 trunk lock cylinder Horizontal is the correct position of the key for removal of the cylinder. There is a small hole above the cylinder. Something to fit the hole is inserted to push down a spring loaded retainer pin in the cylinder while pulling on the cylinder. Your problem with the broken key is the lack of some way to pull. If you can remove the handle from the trunk you might position the cylinder where a penetrating fluid will soak it and help free it.

Re: 38 trunk lock cylinder The handle is off of the car, there is nothing inside the small hole (spring loaded or otherwise). I have tried removing the key with no luck. I better take another look.

Re: 38 trunk lock cylinder The angle I am getting on the button is not working from the outside so I have been trying on the inside. More attempts tomorrow

Re: 38 trunk lock cylinder If your key is horizontal, the teeth of the key must be to the right for the spring pin to be depressed. A paper clip works good. Or, if you can turn the key so the teeth are to the top, you may be able to pull the key out with something like a dental pick.
Good luck. |
Re: 38 trunk lock cylinder thank you to all
