This pic is floating around FaceBook. Note it's a 1931 with 28/29 wheels. Not the usual 'getting newer, smaller wheels' that we usually see....

Probably found 21's with great tyres to replace worn 19's. Tyres were expensive then & unobtainable during War era.
I once looked at a late '30 with 21's. Owner had swapped the 19's to his '29 because of better tyres. Cheers.

Maybe the dogs made him do it. The one on the hood would make me do whatever he wanted!

There was a vintage belief that 21-inch wheels enabled the Model "A" to go faster.

Bob, wouldn't that be true? Seems the outer circumference of a 21 would be greater that a 19, hence a bit further traveled per RPM of engine.... Or am I missing something, as usual?

Bill W - I'm on my second cup now, so no excuses there.... JHowes, the FB page has it flagged as maybe a 'Marmon', whatever that was. Don't think I've ever heard of it.

Marmons were nice cars in the day. Pretty expensive so not seen everyday. A collector in Oklahoma has several and one appears to be a regular driver. Beautiful details on those big cars.

Marmon went on to build big trucks. These trucks were known as the Rolls Royce of trucks, much like their predecessor automobiles had been. Marmon stopped building their trucks in 1997.

You guys might not be looking at this properly. That maybe a 28-29 chase with a 30 body set on it. The dogs probable know but are not talking.

Maybe he wanted the more narrow 21" tires for "mushing" through the snow. Don't see snow in the picture though. However, maybe it's coming. You can see the rearmost dogs' breath so it's probably cold enough.

Yes dogs do drive and here is a newspaper article to prove just that Bill. They may not drive very well but they do drive. After taking lessons that is.

Chinese state media says a Chinese woman's attempt to teach her dog how to drive proved a costly error, as her car crashed into an oncoming vehicle.

Xinhua news agency reports no one - including the dog- was injured, but both vehicles were slightly damaged.

Xinhua says the accident happened recently in the city of Hohhot, capital of north China's Inner Mongolia region.

The woman, surnamed Li, had noticed how fond the dog was of crouching on the wheel, and thought it should have a go at steering the car.

She herself operated the accelerator and the brake. can drive. cheers, gary
