W/W Tires for Long Trip

I am planning a driving trip from Georgia to Alaska :o. I plan to take six new mounted tires four on the ground and two side mounts.

Now the $64K dollar question, what brand white wall will wear the best. I figure we will travel about 11,000 miles in all. Currently I get about 12/15K  on Goodyears. Has anyone had experience with long haul travels?

FYI - This will be a 2011 summer trip over about an eight week duration. I am aware of the inflation factor 35 psi and alignment. Currently I get even wear they wear out evenly ;). I will be driving a 31 stock coupe.

The finer the tire tread, the longer the wear in most tires. So, I am thinking you will get longer wear out of the smoother tread as opposed to the diamond tread which would be better for a rougher terrain. This is my two cents having many vehicles that require tire changes from time to time. I always get high mileage from my tires using this line of thought.

Good luck on your trip, I envy you and most of all BE SAFE AND TAKE LOTS OF PICTURES.

I have Lester tires on my Town Sedan and have put on over 9K miles, including my trip to Vancouver, and the tread still looks very good. I am hoping to get over 15K on them. Time will tell.

We crossed the USA from coast to coast on the same tires. Approx 18,000 mile with Firestone 500-19 they wore well

It's true! 30,000 on blackwall Goodyear Diamonds, with ample tread left and no cracking.

They are faster than whitewalls, too.

The 19 inch Firestone tires on my '30 Coupe gave me over 30K miles before it was time to remove them. I have 24k miles on a set of 19 inch Goodyears on my '31 Roadster and these tires are doing better than the Firestones. Both sets are blackwalls and I have rotated them every 3K miles. I also removed them from the rims and turned them "inside out" at roughly 15K miles. I have 21 inch Firestone blackwalls on my '29 Murray Town sedan and those tires won't make 30K. Gar Williams

Remember maintenance items like keeping proper air pressure, alignment and wheel balance will all factor into the wear on the tires. The normal "life" of the tires should be around 20-25,000 miles according to the tire manufactures we have spoken with at SEMA over the years.

about 10,000 on firestone whitewalls. I'm on my 2nd set and i rotate frequently. Goodyear white walls last longer. But, next time it comes to buying tires, I'll probably do blackwall goodyears. This 2nd set seems to be wearing out just as fast as the first did. But i also take into consideration how much the car weighs, plus the luggage/parts. The heavier the car, the less mileage. I drive a 30 town sedan.

Unless you are going by ship up the west coast, you will probably be travelling through Alberta. Your trip will take you through Edmonton, which is very close to a small town called Stoney Plain where George Moir's Model A & T dealership is located.
They will have either WW or BW in stock of two or three brands, if you need tires at that point.
Contact the Stampede City Model A Ford Club prior to reaching Calgary, as possibly some members from our club could meet with you for a visit.

I have gone through 2 sets of Firestones in 4 years. Getting about 8-10k on them.
Thinking of trying Lesters..only thing I am not crazy about is I like B-walls and the Lesters have this cut out space where the white walls would go.
