M T Lincoln Backing Plates

Think I’m going with a set of these for my 40. Speedway has them listed for $429.99 shipped, anyone found a better price.

TIA, Dave

I bought the front and rear kits, and the prices for the front and rear kits are different. I got mine "on sale" from Mac's/Eckler's in November of 2017; rear set: $579.46, front set: $358.11. Boling Brothers also sells these kits, so you could check their prices. The kits I got from Mac's were in Boling Brothers boxes.

We're you able to use the original drums?

Russ. Yes, I used the original drums. I had to use a round file in a few places, to take the "stamping burrs" off the backing plated so they fit over the lip of the axle and spindles. On the front, you will need to do a bit of grinding on some areas of the front spindle castings to clear the contour of the new backing plates. I put 2" masking tape on the backing plate around the hole, put it on the spindle and wiggled it a bit to get an indication of where to remove material. Make sure they fit nice and flat before bolting them on, or you will warp the backing plate.

Here's a peek at the front spindle metal removal on my 40 for the MT backing plates. I used a die grinder.
Yes, make sure backing plate does fit flat. Template is homemade.

Thanks 51woodie and 19Fordy. I'll be going with a pair on the fronts of my '40.

Re: M T Lincoln Backing Plates

The instructions for using "original" Ford hubs with their Lincoln drums and their wheel studs is to ream out the original stud holes in the Ford hubs to .600" before pressing in the new studs. The .600" reamer is not cheap, if you can find one. You will probably never use it ever again.

If you buy their hubs they come with the correct size holes for their studs and drums. I was trying to save some money. I already had Ford hubs so I did not buy their Lincoln hubs. If I had it to do over again I would have just bought their hubs.

I also ordered the Lincoln backing plates drilled for the smaller backing plate bolts to fit the '32-'34 spindles.
