In Line Fuel Filter Near Gas Tank I am thinking about installing an in line fuel filter back by the gas tank. Anybody done this? What did you use? I have a totally stock 1940 wagon.

Re: In Line Fuel Filter Near Gas Tank I just cut the line and added a clear glass filter above the rear axle area. I had a problem with fine rust clogging things up. With that rear filter, the car would quit after 10-15 miles. I'd get towed home and take the filter apart and clean it. I soon found that once the engine ran out of fuel and quit, if I waited a few minutes, the rust flakes would drop off the filter screen and I could go another 10-15 miles. I then replaced the tank. Been running fine ever since. The filter is still there and has not clogged.

Re: In Line Fuel Filter Near Gas Tank Use a replaceable clear plastic filter. They come with the connecting hoses and spring clamps, do not use the garbage spring clamps, buy the worm gear clamps. Choose an accessible spot near the tank.

Re: In Line Fuel Filter Near Gas Tank I also have a filter near the tank. I have the filter, a shut off valve and an electric pump and then another filter next to carb. I use NAPA pn 3033 filters.

Re: In Line Fuel Filter Near Gas Tank Clear plastic or glass filters are not the best choice, because of durability, regardless of location. Much better are inexpensive common all-metal, or more costly aluminum with SS cleanable filter elements. :)

Re: In Line Fuel Filter Near Gas Tank 2 Attachment(s)
V8 Bob makes a good point. But, I have had good luck with this set up. I like the visibility.
For the photo, I removed the sheet metal shield that protects the filter. Second photo shows fuel shut off petcock in between tank and electric fuel pump. |
Re: In Line Fuel Filter Near Gas Tank There was a nice little plastic filter used in motorcycle tanks that fitted perfectly in the inlet fitting from the tank keeping rust flakes and stuff from entering the lines.
Sadly the place i got them from stopped selling them and i havenīt found a new supplier. With a screen in the tank and the Fram paper filter in the glass bowl fuel deliery was usually working great. |
