Rear Hub Seal/Leak 3!
 

so I have a leak coming out of the left rear hub, Checked diff oil level and about half a cup of oil came out. So it was overfilled! Anyway took hub off and bearing full of oil and oil all over brake shoes. So will get new linings. Looking at the hub seal ,you will see a small nick, not sure if I did that when I took it off, so will replace it. There doesn't seem to be snap ring there and the Bearing moves fore and aft about 1/4 inch. Is this normal? Any other tips will be appreciated. P.S. Someone has told me to get the drum looked at as it will be soaked with oil!! Cheers

If your getting oil in the hubs that means the axle seals inside the axle housing is shot. Not sure why that seal would have a nick like that. That movement in the bearing is normal.

Bummer. Suggest when you want the rear brake linings done you have them done at Safe-R-Brakes Fitzgerald Ave. They will rebond linings to your original shoes and should have the "soft type" material for these brakes. You also need to take a brake drum in with them so the correct lining can be fitted after drum is measured.

It does sound like your inner axle housing seals need replacing, and maybe the same part number seal that goes in front of torque tube. This all involes removing the rear and taking it apart.
I'm wondering how the rear was overfilled? Someone could have just overfilled it, or you could have transmissions oil leaking back through the torque tube into the rear. For that reason, I'm suggesting putting a new seal in the torque tube, that mounts behind universal joint.
