dist. testing

Hi All,

I just built up a spare dist. and would like to test it before I put it in the car. Is there a way to do this and how?

I have a distributor machine that can spin the distributor on, --but I rarely do. Dudley M. & I were discussing this amongst other topics on the phone, and he told me he runs distributors he has rebuilt on his machine for about 30 minutes to 'break in' the distributor before installing it on an engine.

The only thing I think you'd want or need to check is if the electrical continuity is the way it should be. With the points open, there should be no continuity between the ignition wire contact on the lower plate and any part of the distributor besides the moving arm of the points. If there is, it will tell you something is shorting out to ground.

If you install and time it, it will be ready to use if needed and you know it works.

Thanks Will, that is what I was looking for. This way if it is electrically good then I can drop it in and time her when I am ready.

Don't forget to lube the top bushing with oil before installing in you A.
