Re: Model A interior door pick up panels

They're called kick panels. They were originally made out of brownish black grained cardboard. Same as the door panels.

No, the door has the outer door skin and the inner framework with a bunch of holes, which get covered by the embossed cardboard door panel. No steel panel is fastened to the door.

It may be that the panels are homemade. the kick panel has a full plate and the door also has a full plate...

Here is what the door looks like with the door panel removed.

Notice there is a sound deadener inside the door, which appears to be a square foot waterproof packet stuffed with excelsior.

This is a 1929 Phaeton door.

The panel is an embossed cardboard and has a blue grey look, where the 1928 would have a brownish color to it. The Judging Standards give a better description of the color.

The gray panel on the left is an original '29 Roadster/Phaeton "door cardboard". The panel on the right is a "Spanish brown" door cardboard I made. Spanish brown was used on '28 Roadsters and Phaetons and all mid-28 through mid-1930 76-A Open Cabs.
