Engine Ticking sound

Hi guys. I have a 1928 tudor. I recently noticed a ticking sound from the right side of the engine that was not there before. Can anyone steer me in the right direction for diagnostic and possible fix?

Does the ticking increase when you rev engine? First thing I would think of is a sticking or slow valve. Do you use MMO in your gas?

Put a new manifold gasket on. Easy job.

I had one with a loud ticking sound, put in the MMO and cranked it over with the key off them pulled it to TDC and put about a cup in the suspect cylinder and a week later filled the neighborhood with blue smoke, but ticking all go away. Worked for me and now I use the MMO in our ethanol gas, 4 oz. to a full tank. Been told tranny fluid will do the same. Since I buy MMO by the gallon I find I'm not all that worried about the cost. It is, after all, a ten to thirty thousand dollar toy, so why worry about the minor costs?

I haven't noticed a difference with the engine revved up yet. I'll check it out tomorrow. I have not added MMO to the gas, but I will try that also. Thanks.

I once had an engine with a tick and no matter what I did it would not go away until I got a new block and built a new engine. Check valve clearance. The real question is performance affected. l gather not. Don't worry too much.

Possible that the cam nut has come loose. Take the little side cover off and see if the cam is loose.

Does the ticking go away after the engine warms up?

Re: Engine Ticking sound

If the block is worn in the tappet bores, it will tick. The cure? Oversize tappets.

Try to isolate the noise, lifters, exhaust/intake, timing cover. That'll help us.

Hello guys. Sorry I did not get back sooner to update you. I did as Jackson suggested and changed the intake manifold gasket and the ticking sound disappeared. I added a little MMS to the fuel as an added measureand everything seems fine.
