Re: big truck air compressor Worthington compressor is what i have seen but the ones i looked at had a split driveline like a firetruck to get the RPMS faster then a PTO.
Im sure they are all gone now, but i seen a few in a junkyard north of baltimore and the trucks were old baltimore gas trucks. |
Re: big truck air compressor I believe the compressors were belt drive on those trucks.

This is what you need :) Taken from a CMP (canadian Military Pattern) manual

Re: big truck air compressor Hi Meric42,
Would you have any additional information on the tire pump? Mine looks very similar and I am looking for a set of rings for it. Appreciate if you have any more information or know where I may find some. Cheers Corey Sent from my SM-F936B using Tapatalk |
Re: big truck air compressor Just for fun, did you know there are at least three different air compressors for Ford trucks? One is mounted on the side of the transmission for small jobs like inflating a tire, another on the front of the engine was used to provide compressed air for a pneumatic brake booster system and yet another is a PTO driven air compressor for higher air demands.
Ford of Canada provided the transmission mounted air compressor for many trucks built during WW2. The air compressor (Westinghouse, Bendix and others) used for pneumatic brake booster systems came with all the other brake control parts. The PTO drive version is aftermarket equipment and came in many shapes and sizes. |

I found some rings online, oil ring fits perfect but the top ring is 1mm to narrow. As an interim measure only I have 2 oil rings fitted as the are the correct width. I will source the correct width compression ring. Cheers Corey Sent from my SM-F936B using Tapatalk |
Re: big truck air compressor My Blitz (CMP) parts book shows 2 PTO tyre pumps-
the Outboard Marine/Saylor Beall which is the one in Merics pic and the Webster pump which has a removable head. Manuel in Oz |
Re: big truck air compressor Manuel, are there any diagrams in your parts book showing what these tire pumps look like? If so, can you post the images?

I had to get my daughter to help with the scanning. They are all exploded diagrams. I hope they come out ok. I can't see the scans so I don't know what order they are in. The Webster and the Outboard Marine are from the Blitz book and the Lorry one is from the Australian Army book. Manuel in Oz |
Re: big truck air compressor The four scanned pages came out just fine. Thanks for posting.
Sure do like the illustrations Ford of Canada included in many of their parts catalogues! |

Re: big truck air compressor If you are still looking, the old Ford piston ring part number is C11Q19925.

Re: big truck air compressor 2 Attachment(s)
Got lucky at Hershey in October and was able to bring home an accessory PTO-driver "tire inflator" It need bushings on the crank shaft and probably some other work, but it seems to be complete and the only damage is to shifter fork which is broken off and some damage to the end plate which probably is only cosmetic. I think this is a Saylor Beall unit but may be the Outboard Marine? I think the Ford base part number is 18422 but don't know the prefix to the part number yet.
Now for the hard part, finding sources of rings and bushings and maybe some small parts. Any leads for sources of parts is welcome. Hope to install this on my 1935 truck once it's all restored and operational. |
