gas tank switch on a 1931 model A tudor

The switch to turn on the gas tank is very difficult to turn on my 1931 tudor. I do not have this problem with my 1930 roadster. I hesitate to tear into this problem since I do not want to encounter other problems. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks for your help.

You could try running the tank almost dry and add MMO and then work the valve. But the fix is to repair or replace the gas shut off valve. When you remove the valve, install a filter in the valve before installing back into the tank. When I rebuilt the valve for my Late 31, I made sure to grease the internal’s of the valve before reassemble!

You could leave it be in the open position until you want to replace and add a in line petcock

Exactly, and if you use the car once a month, then the valve will stay easy to turn.

There is a packing nut on the gas cut off valve. Try loosening the packing nut a very small amount , while you test the cut off lever for ease of turning. If the packing nut is loosened TOO much it will leak ... Loosening the nut a small amount works for me . If the nut is loosened too much and leaks , it can be retightened as needes
