Zinc spray coatings for running board trim

Anyone have thoughts on using something like Sprayon WL740 for touching up the zinc trim on running boards? My trim has several areas of rust, but are in sound condition otherwise. High zinc content paint looks like a good option, but I don't know about looks and durability. TIA for your comments.

I have the show quality reproduction running boards on my Victoria, but the zinc moldings would not stay on the boards. The edge of the boards has the same shapes as the moldings, so I painted (by brush) the edges with POR-15 Silver and it looks excellent. POR-15 is a very durable epoxy coating, and it does not need a primer.

I've "simulated" CAD Plating, with Dull ALUJIMUM & a "whisp" of CLEAR. Would that look DUMB on the Mouldings?

zinc doesn't rust ---the high zinc paint I have is "weld through primer", it doesn't come out glossy, not as bright as aluminum paint

I have 70s repro trim, havn't done anything ,still look same, sort of dull grey silver ---never polished them either

A couple of options; use small dabs of semi perm. constr. adhesive or GE silicon to adhere the trim to the boards. The silicon hasn't over a year caused any chemical reaction with the zinc and will report back if it does.. Also, silver wheel rattle can paint works well. Another option is to clean the zinc with Mothers Mag wheel polish. We use it on plastic headlights and the zinc and other parts periodically.

Based on what people say here about the best color of a paint type coating to use to dress up the running board trim, I'm leaning toward this product:

Sounds like a silver coating will look better than a dull zinc look.

You could try a bit of Grey Scotch-Brite pad and some Auto-Sol metal polish on them. If there Zinc it should bring them back. The more you polish the brighter they will get so you can control the look with the polishing.

Hope this helps.
