Axle straightness, from another perspective. 6 Attachment(s)
So i heard some of you don't believe me when I say that an axle doesn't have to be picture perfect in order to function perfectly.
Watch. https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/attac...6&d=1528356888 So some rods with sliding cones seem like a good idea for checking the straightness of the holes in the axle, right? Those holes are the ones that spindles and spring perches take their reference from. https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/attac...7&d=1528356888My axle in my car checks out perfect, drives and handles perfectly. But people online think that because I hadn't worked out the minor imperfection in the center (where someone had towed the car with a rope) that it is somehow a problem, it's not. Trust me.https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/attac...8&d=1528356888 https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/attac...9&d=1528356888 https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/attac...0&d=1528356888 Now here's a curly one. An axle depicted with a slightly dramatic twist in it, but its function is not in any way impaired. https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/attac...1&d=1528356888 |
Re: Axle straightness, from another perspective. My friend had a model A coupe with an axle that was bent rearward maybe 2-3 inches on one side by a previous accident. but it never had a tracking or steerability problem.

Re: Axle straightness, from another perspective. Man I guess it really just depends on the what, where & how much. If spring mounts & camber & toe (and a few other items) aren't affected well that's that. Plus if you didn't check you wouldn't know anyway. Bet there's tons of 'em out there too.

We always straighten a Axle so it looks straight to the sight, and then align them. Out of all the hundreds of axles we have aligned, in 54 years, we have never found a straight one good enough to leave, as is. Herm. |
Re: Axle straightness, from another perspective. Out of all the piles of free axles how come you chose that one?
