Radiator re-cored

I want to have my 28 rad re-cored. Does any one know of a rad shop in So. Cal that has experience with these type of rads? I do not live in So. Cal but travel there often and there is on rad shop with the right experience where I live. Thanks, Gary

Re: Radiator re-cored

The guys at The Early Ford Store in San Dimas recommended Rick's Radiator Shop in Azusa. His website is: http://hstrial-ricksradiator.homestead.com/index.html

I haven't had any experience with his work but I called him and he gave a reasonable estimate to Rod out my radiator.

The guy at Brassworks told me he will recore radiators. He's in Pro Robles in Central California.

Good luck,

Re: Radiator re-cored

Live in Inyo County, town of Big Pine,CA Second largest county in Calif. One rad shop in the hole county, not qualified to re-core a 28 rad. Only 18,700 people in the county, it brakes down to about 1 3/4 persons per sq.MILE. Very rural.

Re: Radiator re-cored

I though I would post the outcome of the re-core of my rad. I took it to Ricks Radiator shop in Azusa, He had it for about 10 days and put in a three row h e core Put in the car yesterday and took it for test drive today. It was about 100 and the temp did not go over 190. Drove it for about one hour. I think I have finally solved my over heating problem

Tom, the original owner and Randy's father was a Model A guy and understood about bracket alignment and baffles. Several of us here in Orange County have had our Model A radiators re-cored by Randy. I have a core with four row of tubes and it has performed well in hot temperatures.

Re: Radiator re-cored

I also used Tom's Radiator. Randy recored mine with a 3 row and it works just fine. When I took it in, it had no baffle and the 3 strips were missing at the bottom to hold the harness. He took care of everything putting in what was missing.

Re: Radiator re-cored

Tom and Dennis. What is a general ballpark figure for the work at Toms radiator? Radiator is on the list before my car gets on the road.

Re: Radiator re-cored

Check out pricing on a correct new radiator.

A re-cored radiator is still an old radiator. Like the old retreaded tires.

If your in it for the long haul, that would be what I would do. Enjoy.

Garyjohn,

Glad to hear you had a good result. Did you see any Model A's pass your area on their way to Reno/Sparks?

Re: Radiator re-cored

California Travieso,

I did see some A's up this way and my neighbor and I drove up to sparks today to look at the cars and check out the swap meet. Had a good time. There was a motorcycle there that had a model A motor and transmission in it, it was pretty wild.
